I am delighted that the Research Institute "Kinderkrebs-Zentrum Hamburg" is being extended. Research is necessary to obtain findings about the cause and the healing methods of this maliscious disease. The extension of the research institute provides the capability for even more intensive research, which is essential in the battle against cancer.

It is too little what is done for children in Germany. At the same time we cannot always call for state assistance but have to take the initiative ourselves.

After many years of very intensive involvement in the support of the children's cancer center at Hamburg University Medical Center (UKE) by the Hamburg Sport Club (HSV), it gives me great pleasure to get personally involved as a member of the board of trustees of the Support Association. As a father of four little children I experience every day how important advancements in health issues are for the future. Innovative paths are forged at the Research Institute "Kinderkrebs-Zentrum Hamburg" to help create a carefree future for children with cancer.

Cancer still belongs to one of the cruelest diseases a child can get. As a father of many children I know what a blessing health is for a child and how tremendously children with cancer and their families suffer. My partner and I have been supporting "Kinderkrebs-Zentrum Hamburg" for years and are delighted about friends and colleagues who support the further extension of this very important cancer research facility.

Medical research is never self serving, its purpose is to help mankind. This applies especially to children: They have their whole lives ahead of them. Kinderkrebs-Zentrum gives sick girls and boys a chance to get a real start in life. This work is - not only in Hamburg - absolutely essential. It need love, hope and affection. And for a prosperous future, all our social and financial support.
