The Idea
Children get cancer too. 80% of them can be cured today. Nevertheless cancer is still the second most common cause of death in children and adolescents in Germany.
Therefore we are looking for new ways of diagnosis and therapy at the Research Institute “Kinderkrebs-Zentrum Hamburg”. Only if we understand the development of cancer on a molecular level, we are in a position to develop new specific treatment approaches.
The Research Institute was established on 1st October 2006 by the “Fördergemeinschaft Kinderkrebs-Zentrum Hamburg e.V.”.
Private dedication in connection with the Clinic for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the Hamburg University Medical Center (UKE) made this innovative step possible. Based on successful research projects at the clinic, we are extending, for the long-term, our commitment at the Research Institute with a professorship for molecular oncology endowed by the “Fördergemeinschaft”.
Linked with a university environment we actively support academic training programs for scientists and physicians.
